ASH WEDNESDAY AND LENT

This coming Wednesday, 17 February, is Ash Wednesday & marks the beginning of the Season of Lent, 40 days of repentance in preparation for the celebration of Easter.  Ash Wednesday is a day of Fast and Abstinence.  Normally we receive ashes on our foreheads as a symbol of repentance.  Due to the Pandemic and restrictions that will not be possible this year.  However, we invite everyone to join us at Mass on Ash Wednesday by webcam (11.00am & 7.30pm) where we will invite everyone to mark the sign of the cross on their foreheads with their thumb and recite the formula “Repent and Believe in the Good News of the Gospel”.  The following link may be a useful prayer resource for families. – https:/www.armaghprays.com/lent-2021

During the season of Lent people are invited to undertake some form of self-denial & to contribute towards the poor. We also invite people to join us each weekday (by webcam) during Lent for Mass at 11.00am or 7.30pm & to join with us in the recitation of the Rosary beforehand at 10.40am and 7.10pm.

TROCAIRE BOXES will be available for collection at the back of the Churches or in the Parish Centre outside the Parish Office.

We pray that despite the current lockdown restrictions this Lent will be a season of great grace and renewal for you & your family.  If restrictions are lifted our programme will be reviewed accordingly.

Annual Day of Prayer for Survivors and Victims of Abuse takes place on Friday 19 February.  Prayers will be offered at Masses on that day for those who have been hurt by abuse in the Church.  We are all asked to remember this intention in our private prayers also.

The Churches remain open for solitary private prayer from 11.30am – 6pm weekdays & from 12.45pm – 6pm Sundays in Magherafelt and from 10am – 5pm each day in Castledawson.
